Look Around Before the Ball Arrives

For the player receiving the ball, looking around beforehand rather than just watching the ball can help with the subsequent decision. FIFA Training Centre's study on receiving between the lines emphasises situational awareness.

When watching a match, observe when the player glances over their shoulder before the ball arrives. After looking, you can then watch whether they adjust their body position, play a one-touch pass, or turn towards open space.

The number of head turns alone doesn't indicate a good decision. More important is whether the information gained from looking can be applied in the next action. This is a viewing exercise suggested by ZTVmm.
