How ball carrying beats the defensive line

Breaking the defensive line is not only about passing. In the FIFA Football Language, ball carrying is also classified as a line-breaking attacking action.

When a defender carries the ball, watch whether an opponent leaves their original position to press. If they come out, you can then look at the space they vacated and the teammate who will move into that space.

Do not think that a long carry is automatically good. Also consider how the carrier bypassed pressure, whether there are options for the next pass, and who will cover behind if the ball is lost.
